Background
Since its
inception in 1997, Gender and Development for Cambodia (GAD/C) has been
conduction gender training. In October 2000, a separate programme unit
on training called Training and Internship Programme was formed in GAD/C.
Since its establishment, the training and internship programme has been
providing gender training to government institutions, NGOs, private sector
organizations, youth associations, and other civil societies. The general
objective of gender training are to raise gender sensitivity of the participants
and to enable them to incorporate gender in laws, policies, plans, projects,
programmes and activities. The training and internship programme demonstrates
how gender equity can be incorporated into each stage of the programme
cycle as well as provides assistance to organizations in formulation of
their gender policy.
General
Goals
The goals of the training and internship programme are to enable:
- Elected
bodies, Ministries, NGOs and national and local institutions to adopt
and implement gender sensitive laws, policies, plans and programmes.
- Increase
mutual recognition of and respect for the rights and contributions of
men and women in the family, community and nation.
Specific
Objectives
Specific objectives of the training and internship programme are to:
- Provide
basic gender training to youth associations, NGOs, government institutions
and other stakeholders to enable them to disseminate gender perspectives
among their target groups correctly and raise awareness on gender equality.
- Provide
specific and targeted advanced gender training, and coaching to policy
planners and implementers in government institutions, local administrations,
NGOs and other stakeholders to enable them to develop gender sensitive
law, policy, plan and programme and implement these effectively.
Potential Target Group
Who can Potentially Attend Training Courses and Internship?
The
trainings are suitable for government ministries and departments, local
administrations / governments, NGOs, civil society organizations, youth
groups/associations, and others who are entrusted to promote gender equality
in their respective sectors/areas. The advanced gender trainings e.g.,
gender analysis, gender policy, gender mainstreaming are particularly
suitable for gender focal points in the ministries who are assigned to
develop gender strategies for the ministries, and managers of NGOs, civil
society groups and other organizations who are responsible to integrate
gender in projects and programmes. Mid-level staffs in ministries can
apply for the internship.
