Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport (MoEYS) of Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC) and Gender and Development for Cambodia (GAD/C) jointly organized a national conference entitled ‘Good Practices, Challenges and Lessons Learnt in Mainstreaming Gender in Education in Cambodia’ on 24-25 November 2008, in a Phnom Penh. | |||

The aim of the conference was to provide opportunities for participants to reflect on achievements and challenges of gender mainstreaming in education and to give input into recommendations for responding to past challenges and constraints. The conference offered plenary presentations on good practices and challenges and small group work to generate recommendations to address the challenges. MoEYS, its departments and organizations engaged in mainstreaming gender in education were invited to display and share their experience. Video documentaries on gender mainstreaming, girls’ education and gender-sensitive HIV/AIDS education, were also screened during the conference. Approximately 100 participants took part in the conference. H.E. Nath Bun Roeun, Secretary of State, MoEYS gave opening and closing remarks in the conference. The conference was made possible with generous support from DIAKONIA, Cambodian Women Crisis Centre (CWCC), Cambodian Committee on CEDAW, UNFPA, UNICEF, UNIFEM and UNESCO sponsored the conference.
