>> International Women's Day
International Women's Day campaign is organized every year with different themes in specific locations by GADNet and cooperation with CMN, MoWA, MoI, local authority and other NGOs. The general objective of the International Women's Day is to call for joint action to recognize the women's rights and their contribution to society and promote women's status in all institutions. Specific objectives of the day are to:

  • awareness of making local authorities and grassroots people aware on women's rights
  • improve leadership skills and qualities of women, especially their confidence and self-esteem in order to uphold enhance their leadership role

International Women's Day on 8 March is the story of ordinary women as makers of history; it is rooted in the centuries-old struggle of women to participate in society on an equal footing with men.

The idea of International Women's Day arose at the turn of the century - a time of immense change both in human and women's rights - with the first official day being celebrated in 1901, and it remains of vital importance in highlighting the continued struggle still faced by women worldwide more than a century later.

To celebrate International Women's Day, GAD/C in collaboration with other women focused organisations hosts the International Women's Day. Activities include concerts, public forums, press conferences and media statements, as well as visits to prisoners and victims of HIV and trafficking. GAD/C produces a wide range of products that carry the message, and in so doing it creates the greatest possible opportunity to involve the public in issues of concern to women.

>> Public Forum at Grassroots Level
The public forums were designed to provide a space for the people to raise their concerns, issues as well as constrains of supporting and promoting women in leadership and decision making. The general objective of the forum was to increase women’s representation in the upcoming commune council. The specific objectives of the forum were that:

People in the commune are aware of the benefits of increased participation and representation of women and men in commune councils.
They support the promotion of women’s representation in the commune council.

Identify potential women leaders who are interested to represented in the commune council and improve their skills so they can introduce themselves to the community people and strategic stakeholders to gain support for their representation in the commune council.
